Quantum Science
DepartmentC made NASA’s quantum research understandable and relevant to audiences, ranging from the science community to congressional decision makers to the public. Learn how…
Marketing, Powered by Quantum Insights
For over seven years, we’ve worked closely with quantum scientists and engineers to refine and share NASA’s Biological & Physical Sciences’ Division’s quantum story. Our ability to turn complex information into compelling, digestible content — and tailor it to different audiences — has led to increased visibility with the public and decision makers.
We’ve covered the Cold Atom Laboratory’s pioneering experiments aboard the International Space Station. And we’ve covered a wide range of other quantum initiatives, including entanglement, atomic clocks, the fifth state of matter, and more.
Whether announcing quantum breakthroughs to the science community or educating non-experts on how quantum research/technology impacts daily life, DepartmentC has the proven expertise to make a big impression.
How we made it happen
Strategy
- Developed a cohesive plan to reach a range of audiences: science community, students, congressional decision makers, commercial space industry, and public
- Developed and executed the 2025 International Year of Quantum communications plan for NASA’s Biological & Physical Sciences Division
- Created a messaging architecture and visual identity
- Tailored messaging to the distinct interests of each audience
Content Creation
- Interviewed quantum scientists & engineers
- Developed compelling, plain-language features & explainers
- Concepted, wrote & designed infographics
- Concepted, scripted & produced videos
- Wrote and designed 1-pagers, posters & patches
- Developed presentations & hyperwalls
Oversight
- Executed all components of communications plan (content, web, social, events, etc.)
- Regularly tracked performance metrics & adjusted strategy, as needed
Events
- Planned & staffed NASA’s presence at annual American Physical Society event (12,000+ attendees)
- Hosted “meet the expert” sessions at events
- Developed a SXSW panel on NASA’s quantum research & technologies
Social Media
- Developed quantum-specific posts
- Managed @NASAScience_ X (Twitter), Instagram, Facebook & YouTube social media presence
- Created posting strategy
- Integrated with NASA Flagship social platforms
Web
- Developed centralized “Quantum Leaps” themed web experience
- Analyzed web metrics to inform marketing effectiveness of various pieces
Public Affairs
- Pitched actor Paul Rudd to record a video; developed script & launched social media campaign, which led to a high-performing video on YouTube
- Developed compelling media pitches
- Researched strategic opportunities for leadership speaking engagements
- Researched media outlets
- Responded to media inquiries
- Developed talking points

Another Quantum Leap: NASA Expands Lab to Enable Next-Gen Space Missions
Sometimes the coldest spot in space can generate hot new ideas. NASA’s Cold Atom Lab, designed and built at the agency’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, creates temperatures one ten billionth of a degree above absolute zero — colder than any naturally occurring spot in the universe. READ MORE>>
International Year of Quantum: Why NASA Studies the World We Don’t See
We live in a quantum world — in the realm of the very small. Comprised of atomic and subatomic particles, or the building blocks of all matter, quantum research helps us better understand the connected nature of a universe, but even with quantum mechanics, scientists can only explain less than 5% of the mass and energy in the known universe. What Is the Spooky Science of Quantum Entanglement?
There’s a lot we don’t know about our universe — in fact, 95% of it remains a mystery to us. That’s why scientists continue to probe our understanding of quantum physics. There are many facets to quantum science, but let’s zoom in on something that Albert Einstein called “spooky action at a distance”: quantum entanglement. READ MORE>>
